About Our Founder

Lauryn Gandy founded Heart 2 Heart to foster genuine, intergenerational connections between teenagers and senior citizens through shared learning, service, and companionship.
The seed for Heart 2 Heart was planted in Lauryn's close relationship with her grandmother—a registered nurse and teacher with more than 30 years of experience. As a teenager, Lauryn helped her grandmother embrace modern technology, patiently guiding her through smartphones, laptops, and digital tools. In return, her grandmother shared invaluable life lessons, teaching Lauryn hands-on health skills like checking a pulse and measuring blood pressure. What began as practical exchanges soon blossomed into something deeper: joyful conversations, laughter, and true companionship.
Lauryn quickly became a welcome presence not just for her grandmother, but for many of her grandmother's friends. She saw firsthand how these simple interactions lifted spirits, reduced isolation, and brought renewed energy to seniors' lives. At the same time, Lauryn's growing passion for neuroscience revealed the science behind these benefits—research shows that meaningful social connections can dramatically enhance mental health, quality of life, and even longevity in older adults.
Inspired to extend this magic beyond her own family, Lauryn created Heart 2 Heart: a nonprofit that bridges generations by pairing teens with seniors. Teens share their expertise in technology, health basics, and modern life, while seniors offer wisdom, stories, mentorship, and perspective. The result is mutual growth—teens gain empathy and practical knowledge, seniors experience joy and connection, and both discover the profound power of human relationships.
A senior at one of Maryland's top private schools, Lauryn balances academics with remarkable leadership. She maintains a 3.8 GPA while serving as basketball captain for three years, Social Vice President for two years, Freshman Class President, and director of the school play for three consecutive years.
Looking ahead, Lauryn plans to study neuroscience in college, with the ultimate goal of becoming a neurosurgeon. Through Heart 2 Heart, she is already building a legacy of compassion, proving that bridging generations can create lasting change—one conversation, one lesson, one friendship at a time.
